SINGLE MODE FIBER TYPES AND APPLICATION
The single mode fiber are with its own characteristics for different application including transcontinental, regional, metropolitan, FTTx and interbuilding fiber optic systems. The G65X series are the most familiar ones. What would be their difference? How to choose the right single mode fiber for your application to low down your system cost and optimized the system and budget based on characteristics such as lower loss, larger effective area, dispersion, and bend performance.
G652: the standard single mode fiber, zero dispersion point is in 1300nm, it divides into G652A,B,C,D. The main difference is PMD. It features very small fiber dispersion when the working wavelength is 1300nm, the transmission distance of the system is only limited by the loss; the standard fiber is mainly used for LAN, MAN, access networks and CWDM transmission.
G.653 fiber also named dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF), realizes a low-loss and zero dispersion at the same operating wavelength. The complex fiber structure and small core area minimized the dispersion and attenuation in the 1550nm wavelength range, it is mainly used for Long-haul single-mode transmission systems using erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA). Now replaced by G655
G654: a cut-off shifted single-mode optical fiber The common core is pure SiO2, while the ordinary ones need to be doped with germanium. The G. 654 fiber is a single mode optical fiber and cable which has the zero-dispersion wavelengths around 1300nm, the fiber with loss minimized and cut-off wavelength shifted at around 1550nm. G.654 Fiber could be applied in higher bandwidth submarine systems, DWDM, 10Gb/s and 100Gbs even to 400G and 1T ultra long back haul system
G655: Non zero dispersion-shifted fiber (NZ-DSF) contains 655A,B,C; compatible with G652D, The main characteristic is that the dispersion of 1550nm is close to zero, but not zero. G.655 fiber optimizes the four-wave mixing and other non-linear effects to support remote systems using DWDM transmission
G657A: Available in D, E, S, C and L5 wavebands. It can work in the whole working wavelength range of 1260-1625nm. Excellent bending performance enables it widely used in the last mile of the fiber network especially in FTTH network deployment.
Each type of single mode fibers have their own features and application for best scenario.G657A fiber series are compatible with G652D fiber. Fiber Zip Technology are providing various brands bare fiber such as YOFC, Corning, FIBERHOME, CDSEI ect and manufacturing indoor/outdoor fiber products with those single mode fibers.
