HOW TO PATCH FIBER PATCH CORDS
1: Fiber patching steps:
Step1 : Identify the optical cabinet and network operating center, and find the fiber optic splitter.
Step 2: Identify the splitter number.
Step 3: Find the required configuration splitter port
Step 4: Find the optical fiber port and cable sequence that leads to the user.
Step 5: Patching from the splitter port to the user optical cable port.
2: Basic knowledge and requirement for patching fiber cable:
1) The fiber patching operation must meet the principles such as : neatness, beautiful wiring, easy operation, and less space occupation in
ODF, distribution box and integrated terminal box
2) The extra length of the fiber patch cord must be within 500mm.
3) Only one fiber jumper is allowed to be used between two fiber adapters , the fiber patch cables with insufficient length should not to be used.
4)The radius of curvature of each fiber jumper should be greater than 400mm.
5) General requirements for fiber cabling:
①For the upper wiring, select the most suitable fiber cable spool for the extra fiber length, and run the fiber upward on the inside of the ODF frame,
horizontally wiring of the ODM down side, and vertically up to the corresponding terminal.
②One fiber jumper is only allowed to go up once (along the outside of the ODF frame) and once down (along the inside of the ODF frame)
in the ODF frame, one fiber patch cable coiled on one spool only. No winding, cross or hanging between spools
③Sort out and bound up the fiber jumpers according to the specific environment.
④All fiber jumpers must be coiled in the ODF frame
⑤The extra fiber jumper length for emergency use should be hung on the inner fiber tray without affecting the future fiber patching.
3 :Fiber jumper type and length control
1) Choose the fiber patch cable per the splitter type and adapter type such as SC-FC, LC-SC, ST-FC ect
2) The fiber patch cable length from fiber splitter to user usually to be controled the extra length within 50cm.
3) The connection between ONU and terminal usually choose 50cm length pigtail
4 : The label on fiber patch cord requirement
1)All labels should be printed rather than hand writing
2)Label both sides from operation center, distribution cabinet, interbuilding, splitters to FTTH patch cords.
3)Good work should be with unified standard length, the labels are not staggered and laminated, unified direction
4) Optical path name should be on the label front side, the other side should be with path code and barcode, all should be in one direction
5 : Do the necessary optical test after patching
1)Use the power meter to test fiber splitter output port 1490nm, it should be less than -22dB
2) User side test 1490nm, the power meter should be <-23dB, ONU max sensitivity usually at -24dB
3)Use ONU equipment for online debugging for users
4)If can’t have the signal, check with VFL to confirm whether has wrong patching
5)If patching is right but still no signal, or high loss, ONU can’t work, then maintenance required
6. Change the fiber sequence of the construction order without authorization is not allowed. If the optical path need change during the installation or maintenance, it should be recorded and timely update to the related department
