PRECAUSTIONS FOR FIBER PATCHING
To do the fiber patching good work at a time, some details should be paid attention to:
1. Choose the right fiber patch cord at right length for equipment or ODF Connection.
2. Preparation and precaution before fiber patching:
Different equipment or terminal connection requires different preparation work. To complete the work in one time efficiently, some works to be done:
1)out site preparation wok:
① Have a general idea about the cabling project: Know the purpose, connect what kind equipment with what kind of connector; which fiber patch cable type is required, will fiber transceivers and other tools required?
Tools preparation: optical power meter, test cord, VFL, protection sleeves or tubes, labels, mark pen, notebook, Pliers, electric tape
② Material preparation: fiber patch cable or pigtail in required length, type and amount, transceiver at related wavelength, data rate, distance per the fiber project requirement, spare pair fiber patch cord/pigtail and transceiver is required to be prepared.
③ Panel information should be recorded if it is the connection between two operation room. Have an idea about the distance between ODF if cabling between two cabinets, any necessary via ODF racks
3. Preparation work on site before patching
① Untie and tidy the pigtail/patch cord to be used
② If patching the fiber cable from different server room, contact with the other server room operator, test the patch cord or pigtail, check out any thing wrong with ODF rack information, test the fiber loss, if just the patching within the server room, connecting the equipment and test the pigtail /patch cord
③ Write down the transceiver series number, fiber cable length, type in notebook for easy management afterward
4 The precautions during patching
①If connecting cabinet with cabinet, need protection tube to do the protection and if there is racks, cabling through the racks.
②When use the fiber pigtail patching, the fiber cable end should connecting the equipment, the other end wiring from the cabinet left side, extra fiber coiled in circle and tie with tape, the other side connecting with equipment or ODF without cable outside of the cabinet.
③Label and record the pigtails or patch cords and also record the ODF usage situation with details
④Collect the dust cover for the pigtails and transceiver in case afterward usage.
Before leaving the server room patching test is required. Then clean the site and make sure all in order.
